My contemplation, on this last day of 2023, is the energetic nature of my personal connections and commitments.
Some connections are exothermic. These are the connections that yield energy, and make you feel alive. These are the connections that feel like more than the sum of their parts.
Some connections are endothermic. These are the connections that cost energy, and make you feel depleted. These are the connections that drain, feeling like less than the sum of their parts.
I want to tune into my own heart. I want to have the self-awareness to see the connections and commitments that are part of my life and discern their energetic effect on me.
Of course, I say this with the awareness that every relationship requires effort, every commitment requires input, but I want to be aware when an energetic demand is depleting and corrosive.
What is life-giving grows, and does so quite naturally.
In exothermic connections, I’m the gardener with a skip in my step, knowing that what I am tending is fruitful by nature, knowing that I am giving my energy to nurture something that is naturally expansive.
As I look to this coming year, I want to follow my heart, cliché as that may sound. More that just following my passion and sentiments, this is living from a place that discerns what is life-giving and what is not.
In turn I wish you this wisdom for your own life, so that 2024 will become more than the sum of its days, weeks and months - exothermic in the truest sense.
