Tidal Light debut at Festival of Voices

The Festival of Voices is a celebration of voice and music, community and connection. Held yearly in the Greater Hobart area, it brings together singers and vocal ensembles from around Australia and overseas.

Tidal Light, the Tasmanian ensemble that performs some of my choral arrangements and compositions (and of which I am the former conductor) debuted at the Festival of Voices this year, performing at the Choir Lounge and at the MACq01 Hotel on Hobart's waterfront.

The set list included my SSAA arrangements of Tim Minchin's ‘The Aeroplane’ and ‘Be Still My Soul’ (in 6/8), as well as an original song ‘Embers’, and my text setting of Shakespeare's Sonnet 29.

Having these choral works performed at the Festival of Voices was a wonderful experience. The festival also allowed me to connect with a musical professional from the New Zealand Youth Choir who was well acquainted with my former Choral Conducter at Rangitoto College in New Zealand! What a small world!

You can catch a tiny glimpse of Tidal Light's performance, in the video below, if you don't blink at the 1m24 mark.

Such fun! 😁 🎶
